NEWS & SPECIALS

It'll be twelve hours of bliss at the Vodacom Unlimited Festival at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 16 December as Black Coffee premieres his exciting new AfricaRising project alongside leading local and international DJs at an event you’ll tell your grandchildren about one day…

For many, the pièce de résistance of the Vodacom Unlimited Festival at Moses Mabhida stadium on Friday 16 December will be the debut performance of Black Coffee’s AfricaRising project, conceived with media maestro, DJ Strat3gy.

The buzz is that this two-hour set will be an extraordinary musical encounter, featuring the SA Music Award-winning hit-maker performing his best-loved tracks and new material with a twist: he will be accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra, conducted by none other than fellow Durbanite Brendan Jury, and in a unique staging scenario designed to push the limits of stadium entertainment.

TRADITIONAL MUSIC  & INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS IN THE NEW DEMOCRATIC SOUTH AFRICA

1994 - 2000

After the political change brought by the election of Nelson Mandela, M.E.L.T. 2000 released a number of World Music, Jazz and artist collaborations of artists from South Africa, UK, Brazil and Cuba.

We like to present some of the releases that brought about some radical changes in the musical soundscape of South Afric, exposing the rich but largely ignored and forgotten musical heritage and heroes.

OUTERNATIONAL MELTDOWN

The 1994 collaboration features some 100 South African and intenational artists like

Pops Mohamed, Airto Moreira, Sipho Gumede, Jose Neto, Madala Kunene,

Andrew Missingham, Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, Byron Wallen, Amampondo

and many more.

FIDEL PONDO

the 1995 collaboration of Cuban master conga and timbale percussionist Changuito

with Cape Town based group Amampondo, one of the very first  traditional  ambassadors

of South African Xhosa and other rhythms presented on marimbas, African drums, dance and song.
