2. Looking Back - Ingube Gout & Pops Mohamed
Composed by Ingube Gout and Pops Mohamed
Published by Kalamazoo. Administered by Peer Music Pty
Purest and by far the earliest form of trance music from the oldest
known tribe in Africa - The Khoi-San people or Bushmen. Ingube looks
back on the empty promises of the white man's government and it's black
African puppets on a string who promised them a return to their
traditional hunting grounds - For some it is happening now with the
help and intervention of international organisations who made sure the
world starts to be more awareof the genocide (Adults got rounded up and
killed, their children were given to white farmers because of their
skills). It almost eradicated this self efficient and most skilled
tribe right through Southern Africa. We recorded Ingube in the Kalahari
desert of Namibia and left him with a heavy heart still in the hope
that he can ultimately return to his hunting grounds. It might just
have been too long a wait for the man with no age - judging by the
story Ingube tells he could soon reach a full century in his search for
peace and a decent place to live. Ingube and his friends are still
hidden away from the eyes of tourists in the Korridors beyond Gobabis
on the far western fringe of the desert. (Video Link: Ingube playing
his 36 year old bush guitar made of oil can, twigs and wire strings)

of a sick person talking to the ancestors asking for mercy.

Trance music is almost as old as the Bushmen tribe of the Kalahari
itself. Polio victim Anna (left) who walks the dessert sand on two
gloved hands faster than many on two legs is the true master of trance.
On this track she uses a 5 litre oil can to make her mouthbow resonate
by bending the bow onto the can while her companion beats the steel
string at a rhythm. Qan Do Do - God help us. There is another version
of this song on Pops' album, How Far Have We Come? (BW088) (Video Link:
